GitHub Copilot Student: Free Premium Copilot Access for Verified Students

GitHub currently gives verified GitHub Education students free access to Copilot through the Copilot Student plan. GitHub reevaluates student eligibility every month, so the benefit is tied to continued verified student status rather than a fixed one-year purchase. To activate it, first apply for GitHub Education student verification if needed, then open GitHub Settings, go to Education benefits, select the available developer resources and follow the prompts to activate Copilot Student and choose the applicable Copilot policies. GitHub notes that Education approval and Copilot activation are separate steps and that the benefit may take several days to appear after verification. If only paid checkout options appear immediately after approval, GitHub advises waiting and retrying rather than purchasing a paid plan.
