The offer is for students aged 18 or older at accredited higher-education institutions, and Spotify says the introductory offer is not available to users who have already tried Premium. Enrollment is verified through SheerID. Spotify also explains that student status can be used for up to four years with periodic re-verification; after the student eligibility period ends, the subscription can transition to the then-current Premium Individual plan unless canceled.
