Proton Free Plan: Private Email Plus Up to 1GB Mail and 5GB Drive Storage

Proton currently offers a Free plan at no cost for people who want encrypted email and access to the wider Proton privacy ecosystem without starting a paid subscription. Proton’s official plan documentation says the Free tier includes Proton Mail and access to other Proton services under one account. Its current storage guide explains that new free users can raise Proton Mail storage from 500 MB to 1 GB by completing the Mail setup checklist, and can increase Proton Drive storage from 2 GB to 5 GB by completing a separate set of startup actions. That means the maximum free allowance can reach 1 GB for email and 5 GB for Drive after the required onboarding steps. The free tier is useful for privacy-focused personal email, light document storage and trying Proton’s services, but advanced features and larger storage limits remain part of paid plans. Users should check Proton’s current plan pages because feature availability and onboarding bonuses can change.
