Air Canada Aeroplan: Free Membership, Points and Eligible In-Flight Texting

Aeroplan membership is free and available to individual travelers under Air Canada’s program rules. Members can earn Aeroplan points through eligible Air Canada and partner flights, travel bookings, shopping and other participating activity, then redeem available balances for flight rewards and other options. Each person may hold only one account, and minors must be enrolled by a parent or legal guardian.

A useful current travel benefit is free text messaging on eligible Air Canada aircraft for Aeroplan members. The Aeroplan number must be added to the booking before check-in is completed, and the onboard service supports listed messaging apps rather than photos, videos or attachments. Availability depends on the aircraft and connectivity. Aeroplan also says points remain active when a member earns or redeems at least one point within 18 months; otherwise expiry rules can apply. Taxes, carrier charges, partner conditions and reward availability remain separate, so free membership does not mean every redemption is fee-free.
